Gleneagles Show Report - 8th June 2008

Gleneagles is always a popular event and it was great to have it back on the calendar this year. As always the show was well supported and really does have something for everyone.

The first classes of the afternoon were the showing classes, each of these had a good number of entrants and all were of very high quality. The first winner of the day was Barry Cork winning the 13.2hh and under class with his charming welsh pony Maesgwyn Hilltopper. Ann Rushton-Green driving her lovely hackney type Mickey won the 13.2hh and over class, Ann had a very successful day and also claimed the show champion. Congratulations Annie.

The Mountain and Moorland classes had some of the largest entries of the day with six and seven entrants’ forward respectively. Ronald Forgan driving his Welsh Section D Boleyn Clarence won the Mountain and Moorland class. The Exercise class, which is increasing in popularity, was won by Audrey Barron driving her stunning grey highland Kincardine Bluebell.

After the showing classes it is always fun to let our hair down with some fun classes the first class being the speed cones which was won by Elinor Bosanquet driving her speedy Shetland Merry Minion of Netherley. The novelty cones always a crowd pleaser and putting the grooms to the test was also won by Elinor, I think all the grooms enjoyed this class as we got a box of malteasers on completing the final task – I say we as I also took part and had a fun time! Elinor completed the day of with a hat trick by also winning the novelty ride and drive, a big well done to Elinor, her groom and not forgetting Merry Minion of Netherley.

A great day was had by all, a huge thank you to Richard Lanni for organising such a wonderful event and to Robert Robertson for judging also a big thank you to all helpers and ring stewards without you all we wouldn’t have such great event to attend.
